KADO UZ – IoT distance sensor

The KADO UZ sensor is designed to measure distance using an ultrasonic sensor. Typical applications is measuring of container filling or measuring of distance from obstacle. Its use is appropriate wherever there is no access to detect the distance using a standard sensor. Emphasis is on long battery life and low data transmission costs.

The KADO UZ sensor measures the distance from the obstacle or filling of a container at present time intervals, with the parameters listed below.

  • Measuring range 20 - 200 cm
  • Measuring accuracy +/- 1 cm
  • Possibility of aggregation of measurement into one transmission message

The KADO UZ sensor can be placed in indoor, outdoor or offsite without any limitation.

The KADO UZ sensor can additionally be equipped with a GPS signal sensor and an accelerometer. In addition to reporting the current position, the sensor can detect motion initiation, continuous motion and stop motion. With an internal accelerometer, you can also monitor tilt of the object and set alarm states (overturning, exceeding threshold value etc.).

The KADO UZ sensor has a durable and weather-proof design and can be easily mounted at the place of use. Its battery lasts up to 10 years (depending on the number of measurements and transmmitted messages) without any battery replacement.

Principle of communication

The KADO UZ sensor communicates over dynamically evolving radio network Sigfox for IoT (Internet of Things) with a frequency band of 868.13 MHz. Sigfox allows bi-directional communication of sensors with a limited number of feedback messages. Thanks to Europe-wide coverage, it is possible to communicate and control all sensors especially on a long distances cheaply, safely and with a low power consumption.

The data from the sensor is sent via the Sigfox radio network to the PHARIS IoT Cloud where the data is processed and prepared for view.

PHARIS IoT can also send data to customer’s platform or the KADO UZ sensor can be provide as a pure HW with Sigfox ID and PAC.


The KADO UZ sensor passed all the requirements and tests in accordance with Sigfox ReadyTM certification process and receiving Class 0 level. It means that the sensor emits the highest allowed energy through its antenna to allow communication over very long distances with very low energy consumption.

Mounting and putting into operation

The sensor should be located in such a way that it is protected from vandalism or unintentional damage during operation, and it should be possible to receive GPS signals (unshielded space) if the sensor is equipped with GPS.

Sensor mounting is possible in three ways:

  • Using neodymium magnets (magnetic pull force is about 400 N)
  • Using a 4x M4 screwdriver
  • Using a double-sided tape

Sensor activation is done by approaching the magnet to the reed switch inside the device. In the same way, there is also possibility of the sensor deactivation at planned shutdowns.

The period of measurement and message transmission over the Sigfox network is configurable parameter.
